H&R Block TaxCut Reviews

I've used Tax Cut for 7 years. This year's return was pretty much like all of the others. However, my state return says it has an error - 03-IL-103 and that I have to file manually. No explanation of what the error really is - and no way to ask H&R Block without spending an additional 19.95 - which I won't do. I will never use this again. |

I've used Tax Cut for many years in the past but my experience in 2009 (2008 filing) has sent me looking elsewhere. Once I reached the end of the inputting I was informed that I couldn't e-file because one of the fields wouldn't accept $0 as an answer when in fact it was correct. There was no way to override the system. So I had to mail the return in (all 30+pages). The big suprize was the notice from the IRS informing me that there were two errors that Tax Cut had made and I was entitled to a significantly higher refund. After that experience and the much higher prices for the 2009 product I'm going elsewhere. |

I find that once I install the 2009 program I can no longer review my 2008 tax return on my computer. It appears the new 2009 program removes the 2008 program and any others for past years. Now I have the past tax years on my computer but cannot assess them. this is a real bummer situation Even worse, I cannot contact H & R Block to ask why that is necessary as they do not post a phone number to talk to someone. |

Limits me to 4 items in Casualty Losses, I had over 50 stolen so now I don't get to e-file (is it that hard, to have multiple forms? Come on!) and they get to step away from their "we got your back if you e-file" promise just because the software is lame. Spent all evening entering stuff in Deduction Pro and now it won't import, says there's no '09 data when the 8283 form prints out full of it. So I'm getting to file paper, which I could have done with less wasted evenings. Bye by, H&R. See you never. Thanks for the round shiny worthless disk, and wasting my time. |

I have used Tax Cut for years. The application installed fine on my Vista box and I receive updates fine. Problem comes in when ready to efile. No errors on the return, submit the return, transmits fine, then Bang! Returned with error code 30-FD-8432. No explanation other than to look through all the forms and resend. I did it 3 times with the same problem. Contacted H&R Block, no help. Posted question on their website, and no answer. Looks like others had the same problem. I checked and rechecked, then just printed it out and sent it in. What a pain. I'm very disappointed since Tax Cut has always been such a great product. |

Used Tax Cut free online the last two years after using other software off/on for the last 10. Expected same quality as the last two, but I'll agree it's very buggy. Errors that don't correlate, return numbers that don't make sense. Spent 2 hours online troubleshooting with online help. No luck. I'm not finishing my taxes with it. Switching to alternate means. |

I've used H&R Block TaxCut in the past and have found it as easy to use and far less bloated as TurboTax. Unfortunately, the 2009 version seems to be very buggy. I have experienced the same problems as other users where the updates do not work properly; it will not properly load the State piece; and it would not even import the Deduction Pro file that I had completed. Go back to basics H&R Block...or hire better programmers. |

Bought H & R taxcut yesterday and couldn't download the state ..so I called was on phone with a tech for 2 hrs and finally I told her that I will return for my money back. Nothing that she said for me to do worked. Sadly, I didn't listen to the bad reviews I've read. Don't waste your time or money go for turbo tax instead .. it might be a bit more expensive but there is no problems at all with that one. I used it before but went for H&R block being it's cheaper .. turbo tax is worth the money.

When I was prompted to update the federal program I couldn't get the update to take. Update kept looking at my K drive for memory space to update to but that drive is a CD drive. I couldn't change the location to update to even though the wizard included this as an option. Also got an error message when trying to update the state (OR) that either my version was the wrong version or the update patch was the wrong version. No indication which version the updated patch was for. Also, very difficult to find the help desk phone number. The online update advisor information was either useless or didn't solve the problems it advised. I'm very disappointed with my $49 purchase and won't ust Taxcut again. I have previously used Intuit's TurboTax and HRB TaxCut with positive results. I think HRB must not have gotten enough stimulus or something.

It doesn't work if you have two single people purchasing as a "first time home buyer" it gives them both the full credit instead of spliting it as the IRS says to do.
JohnI've also found problems with the Ca. state software. |

All my data was deleted after nearly completing my return. Logging back on to finish, TaxCut did not recognize that I was continuing my return when the only option on their main home page was to sign-in as a new user. In one click, all my data disappeared without any warnings. When I started all over again, TaxCut did not recognized my previous year info, as it had when I first started my return.

I used H&R Blocks free version of Tax Cut last year with great results. The only additions on the return, beyond the basics, were for stock sales and IRA contributions... which it handled with ease.
This year, I tried the free version again, but with a more complicated return. I found the onlline version to be very buggy. The description and instructions for various items often linked to the wrong places, and it won't allow me to efile because it senses some error but then doen not tell what or where. Worst of all, the number it generated for the tax owed does not appear anywhere in the 1040 instructions. There is no tax bracket that should pay the amount they came up with.
They did a good job of generating all the forms and schedules for my tax situation this year, which is rather complicated as I am living abroad. I think I will keep these forms but re-do the 1040 by hand and paper file. I don't trust their final numbers.
