If you actually need help from their support team, they are useless. Their system didn't file my w-2's properly as I entered them and I was audited.  When I contacted them for audit support (which I purchased), they said they had no record of me filing with them.  I had filed with them for three years in a row.  I will never recommend this company to a single person again.  I am moving on to a software company which allows you to save all your work on your hard drive because I could not locate any of my past imputed information on their web site.  Ironic much?  I've had nothing but problems with trying to attach documents to send to them for audit support and they have been the most unhelpful.  No number to call, only customer support through their web site so no way to even send attachments regularly through e-mail.  I am getting so incredibly inconvenienced it's pathetic.  It's making an already stressful situation even MORE stressful with these ridiculous people. 

My taxes are easy wih no added complications. Using FreeTax Usa for last three years and no problems whatsoever. When set up account don't lose signin ID and Password. If forget you may have problems. I keep written record of all my ID and paswords from all accounts. No problems from IRS either

Wow, this was so easy. Ive never been able to do my own taxes until this came out. Ive used it the last three years, maxed out my returns and have enjoyed doing it. the form saves information from last year so it gets easier the next. I love it and recommend it to friends and family. They know I cant do taxes so they now know this must be pretty easy if Ken can do it.

I rarely ever give all possible stars, so a 4 star from me is an excellent review. I have used FreeTaxUSA (ftu) for two consecutive years. I am single with one dependent so filing for me is pretty straight forward.

What I like:

• I can download adobe formats of both state and federal returns to print/save for my records. 
• I can bookmark sections within the return to come back to later. 
• Federal is free and state is less than 10 bucks.  
• It is truly an Internal Revenue Service authorized e-file provider.
• My returns have been accepted by the Internal Revenue Service in less than 48 hours, meaning I get my return very quickly.  
• Ftu keeps all my info from the previous year so filling out forms is that much easier.

If you file any type of easy form, I highly recommend ftu. 

I have been using FreeTaxUSA for several years now. I've never had any problems with the web based software; and my tax returns have always been accepted by the IRS, resulting in a quick turn around for my refunds.

I have used Free Tax USA for 5 years and have found it to be the best free online tax software out there. It is so easy to use, it calculates your refund as you go and it is cheap to e-file. I have maximized my refund every year and I am much more confident that I have done it correctly compared to my friends who have filled out paper returns without the help of software. I have been able to recover past filings with my username and password. It is great. Very satisfied with this service.

The creation of my return seemed to go very well.  However, I outsmarted myself in the password department, and I accidentally threw the password away. 

So fast forward to August.  I'm trying to get prequalified to buy a home and I need my 2010 return.  Forgotten password, no problem, use the forgotton password link.  I opened the email they sent to me when I filed my return which has my username clearly listed.  I enter my username as THEY provided it in the email.  I entered my SSN.  Bzzzzz.  I get an error that they do not match.  What?.?  It IS my SSN and it IS the username they provided.  I try several times and double check the username.

Customer service refuses to help.  They continuously tell me I must have the username wrong.  Will if I do, then its wrong because THEY told me the wrong one.  After 4 exchanges of emails with them its clear that I'm baning my head against a brick wall.  So I'll have to order a copy of my return from the IRS.  That will take 7-10 weeks.  So much for pre-qualification. 

I guess you get what you pay for.  Next time I'll use someone reputable like HRBlock or TurboTax.

I have used the software for the first time; beginning on my teen's simple return to show investment income of less than $1,000.  The system printed out a nice Federal and State return.  However,

1.  I suspect I do not even require a State Return as there was no monies due.

2.  The software did not provide a "Kiddie Tax" form 8615 which a CPA has told me is required.

This presents flags to me...what do they do with a complicated return?  This is inviting an audit.

I have been using FTU for the last 5 years and this will be my sixth.  The help facilities are not as good as they were back in the 2005 return filing and in the final phase of efiling and return printing, the process has been a bit confusing in the past, but one can muddle through that for $15.00..

Other than that, I would give it a 5 star rating.

Have used Free Tax USA for years and have never had a problem with it.  Friends have used Turbo Tax and have been charged to file their federal and/or state - why pay Turbo Tax when you can file federal for free and go to your states website and file your state free?

The limit of 5 non-cash contributions was the only problem I found.

Easy to use but they miscalculated a credit. I got a letter from he IRS saying there was a miscalculation. Thankfully in was in my favor.

Good software, but only allowed entry of 5 non-cash charitable contributions.  Have more, so had to abandon TaxHawk.

I liked it---easy to use and the price is right.  I don't think I'll ever use Turbo Tax again.  They con you into to using their software--say it's free and then you can't print a darn thing unless you pay.  Not a happy camper with Turbo Tax but Free Tax was great.
