Rating: I used H&R Blocks free version of Tax Cut last year with great results. The only additions on the return, beyond the basics, were for stock sales and IRA contributions... which it handled with ease.
This year, I tried the free version again, but with a more complicated return. I found the onlline version to be very buggy. The description and instructions for various items often linked to the wrong places, and it won't allow me to efile because it senses some error but then doen not tell what or where. Worst of all, the number it generated for the tax owed does not appear anywhere in the 1040 instructions. There is no tax bracket that should pay the amount they came up with.
They did a good job of generating all the forms and schedules for my tax situation this year, which is rather complicated as I am living abroad. I think I will keep these forms but re-do the 1040 by hand and paper file. I don't trust their final numbers.

Rating: All my data was deleted after nearly completing my return. Logging back on to finish, TaxCut did not recognize that I was continuing my return when the only option on their main home page was to sign-in as a new user. In one click, all my data disappeared without any warnings. When I started all over again, TaxCut did not recognized my previous year info, as it had when I first started my return.
